February 27 - March 23, 2014: Ebb and Flow
David Kaye Gallery, Toronto
Meet the artist: Saturday, March 1, 2:00-4:00pm
Loree will also be at the gallery from 2:00-4:00 pm, Saturday, March 15th
In my studio I keep a small collection of stones that I have gathered over the years.
My favourite is a dark grey rectangular stone that has many intricate ivory lines wrapping around it,
as if it was thread spun protectively around a spindle. Wondering what metamorphic forces formed this rock
and its evolution began the inspiration of this body of work. I also pictured the ebb and flow of the tide,
the continual back and forth of the waves slowly altering the shoreline over time.
I imagined the stone as my anchor steadying myself against the current as I too evolve and change.
I continue to be intrigued by patterns, architecture and tactile nature of forms. The work in the show includes
sculptural elements, etched metal pieces, and prints.

Artist Statement
Tension and vibrations are formed between lines
and objects producing surface energy, where everything is temporal.

Architecture forms a sense of language that is deeply embedded
into our experience of place and collective memory.
Spaces, both real and imagined, create memory maps
that link the experiences of our lives together.
Lost City Archives represents a quiet solitude of a fantastical place.
The work combines intricate linear graphics that form an overall calming
sense of order and balance. It is a culmination of trips not yet taken
in search of roots and connections. It resides in the imagination,
caught in glimpses out of the corner of the eye.
For many years this place has been revealing itself to me in fleeting moments.
I have an unexplained familiarity and passion towards cultures and places
that are not part of my genetic make up. In hopes of gathering more pieces
of the puzzle, Lost City Archives is an exploratory journey of these moments.
